While your partner gets to go travel to some distant land, you’re stuck with the same old at home. But just because they get to have some new experiences, doesn’t mean you have to be stuck in the same rut at home.
Picking up a new hobby or catching up with friends that you’ve put off to focus on your relationship (which normally isn’t a good idea to begin with!). Here’s a list of hobby ideas. I’ll try to focus on ideas running on the less expensive side.

Working out - Most areas will have at least some type of gym around. Focusing on your physical fitness will not only improve your health, it will keep you looking good for your partner when you are reunited. Depression lends itself to packing on pounds, so prevent that ahead of time!

You need to be brutally honest with yourself and your partner. That’s the very first you must address, because it is the most important element when beginning any long distance relationship.
There are two types of long distance relationships - initial separation and mid term separation. The first is when you start out long distance - this is what I did - then eventually plan to come together. The second is when you or your partner has to leave for an extended period of time after a relationship has been established.

There is another type of long distance relationship, in which the couple can almost certainly never meet together or have a real life relationship with each other. While I don’t look down on those that have this type of relationship, there is only so much you can do while you are a distance apart. If there is no intention to physically consummate the relationship, it seems to only give more stress and frustration on each couple’s part, as well as denying them a chance to go after a relationship that they can pursue.

Just because it’s long distance, doesn’t mean you can’t do those little romantic things to brighten up your partner’s day. Actually, you should be doing as many romantic acts as possible, just to take their mind off the distance.

If you are drawing a blank for ways to show that you care, here’s a few ideas to start you off:
1. Make fun and spicy videos with your web cam!
2. Call and order flowers to be sent to their work or home. Sure it’s a bit cliché but it’s still sweet.
3. Send a voice mail telling your partner how much you love them (and maybe all the things you want to do to them when you see them).
4. Make a care package with some of their favorite candy, music, and other small gifts. Send it out and cheer up their day.
5. Write your feelings out in poetry or haiku. The power of the written word cannot be denied, and getting to the heart of your feelings in this form will have a melting effect.
